Events Overview

_________________________________________________________________________________

The ACLU of Colorado is involved in many community events, whether it is through the education of its members, or through direct sponsorship and participation in certain events. The two main events each year are the Annual Members Meeting, which usually occurs in February, and the New Member Orientation in May that is meant to welcome new members into the organization. Check our upcoming events for events near you!

Fundraising Eventslibertyrun

The two biggest fundraising events for the ACLU of Colorado Foundation have traditionally been the 4th of July Liberty Run, Walk & Festival of Rights and the Carle Whitehead Memorial Awards Dinner and Silent Auction in the fall.

The Carle Whitehead Memorial Awards Dinner and Silent Auction is an annual event and fundraiser for the Colorado ACLU Foundation. The Carle Whitehead award is given to a person or persons who have dedicated a lifetime of work to the protection of our civil rights and liberties in Colorado. This dinner is the biggest fundraiser for the ACLU Foundation of Colorado, providing the means to fund litigation, educate the public and to further its mission of protecting and extending the civil rights and liberties of all people in Colorado.

Other Events

tentsThe ACLU of Colorado regularly particpates in other city and state-wide events. Other events include Pro-Choice Lobby day, held every January, the CHUN (Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods) People’s Fair, Cinco de Mayo, and, in June and July, chapters of the Colorado ACLU support PrideFests in both Denver and Colorado Springs—supporting equal rights for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. In 2004 and 2008, the ACLU of Colorado was also very active in protecting the votes of all citizens, as well as getting out the message to vote via groups such as Colorado Voting Project, Colorado Women Vote, and the Gill Foundation/Democracy Project.
